WHAT IS FIESMED?
FIESMED is a Federal Government program that allows doctors to reduce their FIES student loan debt by 1% for each month of work in priority regions. That means up to 12% per year reduction in the outstanding balance.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
You can apply for debt reduction if:
You completed medical school with FIES financing by the second semester of 2017;
You work in regions considered priority by the Ministry of Health;
You serve on a Family Health Team (FHT) (40 hours per week) or work with indigenous, riverside, or quilombola populations (32 hours per week).
PROGRAM ADVANTAGES
Real debt reduction: 1% per month of work;
FIES installments are suspended while you're in the program;
Extended eligibility for those who worked in the fight against COVID-19 (at least 6 months in the SUS between March and December 2020).
HOW TO APPLY FOR FIESMED
Go to: fiesmed.saude.gov.br
